[Acne] Do you have small, permanent skin-colored or white bumps (like cobblestones under your skin), but only on your chin? It might be a “new” kind of acne scarring. | Kr Laser

Here’s what it looks like:

[More severe(?)](https://www.idoj.in/articles/2019/10/4/images/IndianDermatolOnlineJ_2019_10_4_486_261808_f1.jpg)

[Less severe](https://www.idoj.in/articles/2019/10/4/images/IndianDermatolOnlineJ_2019_10_4_486_261808_f3.jpg)

And [here’s](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/gcewp3/skin_concerns_help_with_pesky_bumps_on_chin_milia/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) a recent poster who seems to have this type of scar as well— there are actually a lot of posts in this sub asking for help to identify this mystery texture. The picture looks a lot like mine, and I’ve had it for about six years.

I say “new” because most of the journal articles I’ve seen mention that it is rarely discussed, and there isn’t a widely known treatment plan for it. It’s called **papular scarring.**

[Here](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4295854/) is an excellent journal article about it.

I’m making a post because I’ve spent years wondering what these damn tiny bumps on my chin were, and I’m sure others are in the same boat; they didn’t look like any other type of scarring I read about, and they only seem to smooth out *very* slightly when I saturate my skin with hydrating products. They get more obvious and ragged as I get older.

I’m making an appointment with a dermatologist to talk about fraxel laser treatments, as the doctor who has written at length about papular scarring has seen success with that in the past. The “pinhole” method is also mentioned. [Here’s](https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/cms/asset/74093fbe-cdc0-43af-b7e2-462cdecb26c0/dth12512-fig-0001-m.jpg) a before and after picture following that treatment.

However, the lasers won’t be happening for a while, so I’m going to experiment in the meantime with silicone sheets. I was scared to do anything crazy to my chin before because I didn’t know what the bumps were, but it seems they can maybe be treated like other kinds of raised scars. If you want, I can make an update post in a month or so.

If anyone has any other information or ideas to add about papular scars, fire away!

Final note: *Avoid microneedling these bumps at all costs!*
